Ashram Temple of Light
The Temple of Light serves as a spiritual sanctuary and meeting place for the Yasodhara Ashram in Kootenay Bay, BC. The beautiful flower-like form is constructed of eight large prefabricated wood petals set on a glulam spine.
The temple sits on a clifftop overlooking Kootenay Lake. Its sculptural form is in harmony with the surrounding forest. The building has won numerous awards including the 2019 Canadian Wood Council Design Innovation Award and 2019 AIBC Innovation Award.
In addition to the all-wood superstructure, the building minimizes its environmental impact by reusing the foundations of the previous temple that had been destroyed.
