Dr. George M. Weir Elementary School
Dr. George M. Weir Elementary School is a replacement school built under the provincial seismic mitigation program for the Vancouver School Board. 75% of the existing building was replaced, while an existing classroom block (constructed in 2000) was able to be retained.
The design of the school centers on excellence through efficiency, achieving the Vancouver School District’s most energy efficient school. The construction utilizes passive design strategies, and combines hybrid mass timber floors and roofs with light wood frame walls.
Flexible learning spaces support 21st-century education, with classroom pods linked by shared commons that encourage collaboration and outdoor connection. A double-height entry hall anchors public and community areas.
