Fort McMurray International Airport
Situated in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo in Northern Alberta, the Fort McMurray Airport Terminal acts as a gateway to the ever-growing community of Fort McMurray. The New Terminal Project, which includes the construction of both a new terminal building and the redevelopment of the surrounding airport lands, will help satisfy the demand and accommodate future growth.
The expansion incorporates the most significant green building practices appropriate to an airport typology including energy optimization, super-insulated building envelope assemblies, in-floor radiant heating, displacement ventilation, sophisticated heat-recovery systems, and passive solar orientation.
The structural elements include structural steel and hollow core with 50-foot glulam and the innovative use of cross laminated timber (CLT) technology for the roof structure. The new development radiates a memorable presence of warmth and natural beauty that reflects the city of Wood Buffalo.
