Ronald McDonald House BC
This LEED Gold certified community project provides a home away from home for out of town families with children receiving medical treatment at BC Women’s and Children’s Hospital. The structure consists of four separate residential units connected by a communal link spaces. Each house operates independently with individual living, dinning and kitchen facilities, each housing approximately 16-18 families.
The building structure consists of pre-fabricated CLT panel walls which were erected much like concrete tilt-up construction bringing in the erection two months ahead of schedule. Standard plywood on pre-engineered wood I-joists are used for the floors. Solid panel walls were favored over standard stick frame construction for their speed of erection as well as their dimensional stability and sound-proofing contribution. The link structures, which carry green roofs, consist of innovative exposed wood-concrete composite panels.
