New Principals at EQUILIBRIUM

EQUILIBRIUM is delighted to announce the promotion of Jack Lloyd in our Vancouver office, and Matt Kantner in our Atlanta office, to Principals of the firm.

Jack’s promotion to Principal reflects both his leadership within the firm and his growing impact on our Canadian operations. He is a steady, trusted presence and a backbone of our Vancouver office, consistently demonstrating sound judgment, accountability, and a commitment to excellence. He brings a forward-looking mindset to his work, always focused on improving both himself and the firm. As a project manager and engineer, Jack has built a strong track record of delivering successful outcomes, earning the confidence of clients and colleagues alike. Beyond project delivery, he has played a key role in strengthening and growing our Canadian team through the expansion of our Vancouver office. His technical expertise and business development skills continue to enhance the depth and performance of our operations in Canada. A true North Vancouver local, Jack also embodies the energy and balance of the community—an avid skier who can just as easily be found mountain biking, trail running, or on the golf course when the snow isn’t falling.

Matt’s promotion to Principal recognizes his technical strength, leadership in sustainability, and key role in the growth of our U.S. operations. He combines big-picture thinking with strong attention to detail, enabling him to guide projects from early vision through to precise execution. His work is consistently thoughtful, efficient, and well resolved. Matt has also advanced the firm’s sustainability agenda in a practical and impactful way, with a strong focus on timber design and low-carbon solutions that reduce environmental impact while maintaining performance and constructability. Beyond project delivery, he has been instrumental in expanding our U.S. presence, supporting new opportunities, strengthening client relationships, and helping establish a strong position in a competitive market. Outside the office, Matt is a car enthusiast—his one sustainability “vice”—and enjoys autocross and track driving, though he is increasingly drawn to the new wave of high-performance electric vehicles.

Founding Principal Eric Karsh continues to lead EQUILIBRIUM from Vancouver with an increased focus on design concepts, mentorship, and innovation.

Please join us in congratulating Jack and Matt on their well-deserved promotions!

He is deeply committed to reducing the carbon impact of the built environment, combining technical expertise with advocacy to help drive meaningful change in our industry. His contributions include authoring guidance for the Institution of Structural Engineers on the embodied carbon of mass timber; serving on an advisory panel for the Carbon Leadership Forum BC; working with the City of Vancouver to help introduce the first embodied carbon code regulations in North America; participating in industry initiatives including SE2050; and ongoing engagement with clients and collaborators to deliver lower-impact structures.

Outside the office, you’ll most likely find him hiking up the mountains in summer and snowboarding back down them in winter.

Please join us in congratulating Tom on this well‑deserved promotion.
